Indiana University is the flagship campus of the Indiana University system. It is also known as "Indiana University Bloomington," "Indiana," or simply IU, and is located in Bloomington, Indiana.

The tenth annual Newsweek-Kaplan College Guide, which appeared in the August 22, 2005 issue of Newsweek magazine, chose IU as its "Hottest Big State School" and extolled the campus's blend of tradition with emerging technologies..[4][5]
USA Today called Bloomington one of the top 10 student-friendly college towns.[6] The university offers the latest in technology: IU was ranked as one of the top five wired universities in America according to Princeton Review and PC Magazine.[7] On the 2009 Green Report Card, issued by the Sustainable Endowments Institute, the university received a C+. Of students enrolled in the Fall 2008 term, 1,749 were African-Americans, 1,572 were Asian, 1,047 were Hispanic, and 116 were American Indian. More women (20,455) were enrolled than men (19,899). The IU student body contained students from every state in the U.S. as well as over 160 foreign nations.[2]
Indiana University also has a wide variety of extracurricular organizations and clubs to keep students active and involved beyond academics. IU is also home to a Greek system of about 17 percent of undergraduates
